Botox, Dysport & Xeomin…Oh, My!

How do you know if one of these treatments is right for you?

Botox, Dysport and Xeomin all work by blocking the release of a neurotransmitter called acetylcholine, which causes muscles to contract. When acetylcholine is blocked, the muscles relax, which smooths out wrinkles and reduces muscle spasms.

Botox

Botox is the name brand that comes to mind when most of us think of neurotoxins. It’s only one of a variety of neurotoxins available to treat fine lines, wrinkles and other concerns. It’s even used to treat migraines! The effects of Botox typically last for 3-4 months, after which the treatment can be repeated.

Botox is the most popular cosmetic injectable treatment in the United States! It was approved for cosmetic use in 2002.

Dysport

Dysport is a safe and effective treatment for wrinkles and other cosmetic concerns. It is equally as effective as Botox at treating fine lines and dynamic wrinkles. Dysport can be used to treat all areas that we use Botox to treat.

The effects of Dysport typically last for 3-4 months, after which the treatment can be repeated.

Xeomin

Xeomin is similar to other botulinum toxin medications, such as Botox and Dysport. However, Xeomin is different in that it does not contain any complexing proteins. Complexing proteins are proteins that are used to stabilize botulinum toxin during manufacturing. Xeomin's lack of complexing proteins makes it less likely to cause antibody formation, which can improve its long-term effectiveness.

Xeomin is a great option for younger patients who may be just starting out with botulinum toxin. The effects of Xeomin typically last for 3-4 months, after which the treatment can be repeated.
